Tummy tuck
Abdominoplasty removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat from the abdomen and can tighten a weakened abdominal wall. It helps where neither diet nor exercise has brought the desired result.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
Abdominoplasty is intended for women and men who struggle with loose skin or fat deposits on the abdomen that do not respond to dietary changes or regular exercise. It is often sought by women after pregnancy, when the skin has lost its elasticity and the abdominal muscles have separated (diastasis). It is also suitable for patients after significant weight loss who are left with overhanging skin. Suitability for the procedure is always decided by the doctor at a personal consultation, where they will assess your health and your expectations.
What is abdominoplasty?
Abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck or abdominal wall reconstruction, is a surgical procedure in which the doctor removes excess skin and subcutaneous fat from problem areas of the abdomen. The procedure often also includes tightening weakened or stretched abdominal muscles to restore their natural tension. The result can be a smoother, firmer and better-shaped abdomen. The procedure differs from liposuction in that it also addresses loose skin and the condition of the abdominal wall, not just the fat deposits themselves.
What does it address?
- Loose abdominal skin
- Abdominal muscle diastasis
- Diet-resistant fat
- Skin after pregnancy
- Overhanging skin after weight loss
How a tummy tuck is performed
The procedure is performed under general anaesthesia, so the patient is asleep throughout. The surgeon makes the incision low in the lower abdomen, usually within the bikini line, so that the resulting scar is as inconspicuous as possible. They then remove excess skin and subcutaneous fat and tighten the weakened abdominal muscles. In some cases, the procedure can be combined with liposuction, which helps remove further fat deposits and refine the contours. The wound is closed with stitches that are either absorbable or removed at a check-up.

Course of the treatment
The procedure is preceded by a consultation with the doctor, during which we will discuss your wishes, medical history and the appropriate extent of the procedure together. The operation itself usually takes two to five hours, depending on how extensive the correction needs to be. It is performed under general anaesthesia and followed by a hospital stay of two to three days, during which the patient is under the supervision of medical staff. Before discharge, you will receive detailed home care instructions and check-up appointments.
Post-operative care
After the operation, it is important to follow the doctor’s instructions, especially regarding limiting physical exertion. Wearing an abdominal binder is recommended for four to eight weeks; for the first four weeks the patient wears it continuously, removing it only to shower. The doctor may prescribe painkillers and medication to prevent infection. Stitches are removed approximately 12 to 14 days after the procedure. Full recovery usually takes several weeks, and you return to normal activities gradually as advised by the surgeon.
