Varicose vein removal

Varicose veins can cause heavy, tired legs, swelling or night cramps, and they also affect the appearance of the lower limbs. After examining your venous system, we will recommend a suitable treatment method – from conservative care to minimally invasive vein closure.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Treatment is suitable for anyone bothered by visibly enlarged leg veins or symptoms of venous insufficiency – pain, swelling, and a feeling of heaviness and fatigue in the legs. It should also be considered by people with skin changes, eczema or leg ulcers, those with a family history of the condition and patients with chronic illnesses. Varicose veins can also appear during pregnancy. At the consultation, the doctor will examine the venous system of your legs and recommend an approach suited to your findings.

What are varicose veins?

Varicose veins (varices) are enlarged, bulging and twisted, knotted veins of a bluish-purple colour that most commonly form in the superficial venous system of the legs. In European countries they affect approximately 20–30% of men and 40–50% of women. Heredity plays the main role; ageing, lack of exercise, hormonal changes including pregnancy, and prolonged standing or sitting also contribute to their development. In advanced stages they can lead to chronic venous insufficiency, thrombosis or leg ulcers.

What does it address?

  • Visible varicose veins
  • Heavy, tired legs
  • Swelling of the legs
  • Night cramps
  • Skin changes on the lower legs

Treatment options

Treatment begins with an examination of the vascular system of the legs. In milder cases, a conservative approach helps – compression stockings, lifestyle changes and regular exercise. Among minimally invasive methods, the vein can be closed with a laser beam, a special medical adhesive or by sclerotherapy, i.e. an injection of a substance after which the affected vein gradually disappears. For more extensive findings, conventional surgical removal may be considered. The doctor chooses the method according to the type and extent of the varicose veins.

Course of the treatment

At the initial consultation, the doctor will examine the venous system of your legs, assess your symptoms and propose suitable treatment, including the price. Depending on the chosen method, the procedure is performed under local or general anaesthesia. In surgical treatment, the doctor makes an incision in the affected area and removes or closes the varicose vein. Minimally invasive methods are gentler and usually do not require extensive incisions. After the procedure, it is important to follow the doctor’s instructions and any recommended rehabilitation.

Post-operative care

After surgery, a short hospital stay is usually recommended. In the following period, it is important to wear compression stockings, limit physical strain and follow the regimen set by the doctor. Recovery may take several weeks, depending on the chosen method and the extent of the procedure. Regular check-ups make it possible to monitor healing and detect any problems early. Elevating your legs and getting enough exercise also help relieve discomfort in everyday life.

Benefits of the treatment

  • Relief from heavy, painful and swollen legs
  • Better-looking legs
  • A choice of conservative and minimally invasive methods
  • Return to normal activities after recovery
