Arm, thigh and back lift
Arm, thigh and back lift surgery is a surgical procedure aimed at removing excess skin and subcutaneous tissue. It allows the contours of selected areas of the body to be reshaped, especially after significant weight loss or when the skin loses its elasticity.
Who is the procedure suitable for?
The procedure is suitable for women and men bothered by markedly loose skin and skin folds on the arms, thighs or back. These changes often appear after significant weight loss, but may also be related to ageing and the gradual loss of skin elasticity.
Surgery may also be appropriate where excess skin causes chafing or irritation, or limits comfort during movement and everyday activities. An important prerequisite is a stable body weight and an appropriate state of health. The suitability and extent of the procedure are decided by the plastic surgeon on the basis of an individual examination.
What does it address?
Loose skin on the arms
Skin folds on the back
Excess skin on the thighs
Irregular body contours
The procedure
The surgical technique depends on the location and extent of the excess skin. The procedure is usually performed under general anaesthesia.
Arm lift (brachioplasty)
In an arm lift, the surgeon removes excess skin and, where necessary, subcutaneous tissue, most often on the inner side of the arms. The length of the incision depends on the degree of skin laxity and may extend from the armpit towards the elbow.
Thigh lift (femoroplasty)
Thigh surgery focuses primarily on removing excess skin on the inner thighs. Depending on the extent of the procedure, the incision may be made in the groin area or continue along the inner side of the thigh.
Back lift
In a back lift, skin folds and excess subcutaneous tissue are removed, most often in the upper or middle back. The placement and length of the incisions depend on the amount of excess tissue and the planned correction.
After removing the excess tissue, the surgeon reshapes the contours of the treated area and closes the surgical wounds with stitches. The resulting scars vary according to the extent and location of the procedure.

Post-operative care
After the operation, swelling, bruising, tenderness or a feeling of tightness may occur in the treated area. Recovery usually includes wearing compression garments, which support the operated tissues during healing.
In the first weeks, it is important to limit physical exertion, heavy lifting and movements that put significant strain on the surgical wounds. Specific restrictions vary according to the area operated on and the extent of the procedure.
Regular care of the surgical wounds, follow-up check-ups and protecting the scars from sunlight are important. The return to normal activities is gradual, depending on the individual course of healing.
