Treatment of excessive sweating

Excessive sweating, or hyperhidrosis, can significantly affect everyday comfort. Targeted injection of a medical product into the armpits, palms or soles of the feet can reduce the activity of the sweat glands and limit sweating for several months.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

The treatment is intended for women and men who struggle with excessive sweating that bothers them in everyday life, even with normal hygiene. Most commonly this involves underarm sweating, but the palms or soles of the feet can also be treated. It is suitable for those looking for a solution with a quick procedure and a short period of restrictions. Every treatment is preceded by a consultation with a doctor, who assesses the extent of the problem, your medical history and the suitability of injectable treatment.

What is hyperhidrosis?

Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which the body produces more sweat than is needed to regulate body temperature. Sweating need not be linked to heat or physical exertion and most commonly affects the armpits, palms and soles of the feet. In addition to physical discomfort, such as sweat-soaked clothing or damp palms, it can also affect self-confidence as well as social and working life. If the problem persists, it is therefore advisable to consult a doctor, who will assess the treatment options.

What does it address?

  • Underarm sweating
  • Sweaty palms
  • Sweaty feet

How the treatment works

The doctor applies a medical product through gentle injections into the skin in the area where sweating is excessive. The product can temporarily reduce the activity of the sweat glands and thereby lessen sweating in the treated area. The effect sets in gradually, usually within several days of the application. The duration of the effect varies, but it typically lasts several months. Once the effect wears off, the treatment can be repeated as needed after consultation with your doctor.

Course of the treatment

The treatment begins with a consultation with a doctor, who assesses the extent of sweating and determines the area to be treated. The skin is cleansed and disinfected. The doctor then applies the product with a fine needle through small injections distributed across the treatment area. You may feel a brief sting during the application. The procedure is carried out on an outpatient basis and you can usually return to your normal activities afterwards. The effect becomes apparent over the following few days.

Aftercare

No lengthy recovery is usually needed after the treatment. Mild redness may appear at the injection sites, which typically subsides within a few hours. Do not massage the treated area and avoid saunas, sunbeds and strenuous physical activity for the following few days. Care for your skin gently. If you notice any unusual or prolonged reaction, please contact your treating doctor.
