Thread veins, port-wine stains and haemangiomas
Laser removal of vascular lesions is a modern outpatient method for treating dilated blood vessels, haemangiomas and congenital vascular malformations known as port-wine stains (Naevus flammeus). The laser acts specifically on the red blood pigment in the vessels without significantly affecting the surrounding tissue.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
Laser treatment is suitable for patients who wish to remove or reduce visible vascular changes on the face or body. It can be used to treat, for example, haemangiomas, congenital vascular malformations (port-wine stains – Naevus flammeus), thread veins, red scars or early-stage red stretch marks. The suitability of laser treatment is always decided by the doctor after an initial examination.
What is a port-wine stain (naevus flammeus)?
A port-wine stain, medically known as naevus flammeus, is a congenital wine-red mark made up of a large number of dilated small blood vessels located in several layers of the skin. It may cover a larger area and most commonly appears on the face and neck, but it can also occur on the trunk or limbs. It usually poses no health risk, but for many people it can be a psychological burden. Laser treatment can gradually reduce its visibility.
What does it address?
Thread veins
Port-wine stains
Red scars
Red stretch marks
Haemangiomas
Other selected vascular lesions
Healing process
After the treatment, the skin may be temporarily red or slightly sensitive, which is a normal part of the healing process. The treated blood vessels are gradually absorbed and the final effect develops over the following weeks. After the procedure, the treated area must be protected from sunlight, a high-SPF cream should be used and the instructions of the treating doctor should be followed. Laser treatment is not usually performed on tanned skin.

Course of the treatment
Before the treatment, the doctor assesses the nature of the vascular lesion and chooses the most suitable approach. You should come to the procedure with untanned skin. The treatment itself is performed on an outpatient basis and, depending on its extent, usually takes 15 to 30 minutes. The procedure uses a dye laser, whose beam reacts specifically with the red blood pigment in the vessels. The treated vessels are then gradually absorbed and replaced by fibrous tissue.
Benefits of the treatment
- Precise treatment with minimal impact on the surrounding tissue.
- A method that is gentle on the surrounding skin.
- Outpatient procedure with no hospital stay.
- Quick healing and a short recovery time.
FAQ
Is the treatment painful?
During the procedure you will feel brief pulses of heat or a stinging sensation, which most patients tolerate well. The degree of sensitivity varies depending on the area being treated.
How long does the procedure take?
The treatment takes approximately 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the size and extent of the area being treated.
Can I come for treatment with a tan?
We recommend coming with untanned skin. Tanned skin increases the risk of adverse reactions, so avoid the sun and sunbeds before the procedure.
When will the result be visible?
The treated blood vessels are absorbed by the body gradually, so the result develops over several weeks. Its extent varies from person to person and depends on the type and size of the lesion.
