Scar removal

Scars can form after injuries, surgical procedures or inflammatory skin conditions. Although they cannot be removed completely, modern laser therapy can soften their appearance, smooth out irregularities and reduce their visibility. The appropriate treatment approach depends on the type, age and nature of the scar and is determined by the doctor at an individual consultation.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

The treatment is suitable for anyone bothered by a scar following surgery, an injury or a skin condition – whether for aesthetic reasons or because the scar is raised, red or uncomfortable. The best results can usually be achieved with fresh scars up to six months old, especially when combined with proper home care. However, older and more extensive scars can also be helped. The doctor will determine the appropriate method and number of treatments at a personal consultation.

What does it address?

  • Surgical scars
  • Post-traumatic scars
  • Acne scars
  • Keloid scars
  • Hypertrophic scars
  • Atrophic (depressed) scars

Scar removal methods

The appropriate treatment method depends on the type, size, location and age of the scar. The individual approaches can also be combined according to individual needs in order to achieve the best possible aesthetic result.

Laser treatment

Young scars up to six months old, which tend to be red and raised, are treated repeatedly with a vascular laser. The laser beam is absorbed by the haemoglobin in the small blood vessels of the scar, gradually reducing their network. As a result, the scar becomes thinner, paler and softer. Several visits are needed to achieve the result.

Surgical scar revision

For more prominent or poorly healed scars, surgical revision may be considered. The original scar is removed and the wound is professionally re-sutured with the aim of creating a finer, less noticeable scar.

Chemical peel

A chemical peel supports the renewal of the surface layers of the skin and helps to soften minor irregularities and superficial scarring, especially acne scars. It helps to even out the texture and overall appearance of the skin.

Injectable scar treatment

Injectable treatment offers various care options depending on the nature of the scars. For raised, hypertrophic and keloid scars, treatment aimed at limiting excessive scarring and softening and flattening the tissue can be used. For small scars, such as acne scars, polynucleotides may be a complementary option; they support regenerative processes and may help to improve skin quality. The doctor will determine the appropriate method and number of applications individually.

Course of the treatment

The treatment is preceded by a consultation with the doctor, during which the method and treatment plan are chosen. Before laser treatment, a numbing cream can be applied to the area being treated. During the procedure you may feel mild stinging or burning. After the treatment, redness, swelling and small crusts may appear, which gradually subside. The healing time varies according to the chosen method and the intensity of the treatment.

Aftercare

The treated area must be protected from the sun and a cream with a UV filter should be used regularly. Apply healing ointments as instructed by the doctor and, where appropriate, massage the scar. With fresh scars, consistent care – healing products, massage and avoiding the sun – plays an important role and can contribute significantly to making the scar as inconspicuous as possible.
