Facelift – face and neck lift
A facelift is a surgical procedure aimed at tightening lax facial tissues and restoring facial contours. It helps soften the signs of ageing, particularly in the cheeks, jawline and lower face, with an emphasis on a natural-looking result.
Who is the treatment suitable for?
A facelift is suitable for both women and men experiencing laxity of the skin and deeper facial tissues, loss of firm contours or the development of more pronounced skin folds. The procedure may be particularly suitable for sagging cheeks, laxity of the lower face or loss of a defined jawline.
The choice of a suitable surgical method depends on the client's anatomy, the extent of the changes and their expectations. During a personal consultation, the plastic surgeon therefore assesses the condition of the individual tissues and proposes an individual surgical plan.
Facelift methods
SMAS facelift
The SMAS facelift is a surgical method in which, in addition to the skin, the deeper fibromuscular layer of the face, known as the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), is also addressed. By tightening and repositioning it, sagging tissues and facial contours can be corrected without the result relying solely on stretching the skin.
Deep plane facelift
The deep plane facelift is an advanced surgical technique in which the surgeon works in a deeper anatomical layer beneath the SMAS. It allows the sagging facial tissues to be released and repositioned as a single unit, particularly in the cheeks and lower face. The aim is to refine the facial contours while preserving a natural expression.
Combination with other procedures
Depending on the individual findings, a facelift can also be combined with other surgical procedures:
- Neck lift – addresses lax skin and tissues of the neck, refining its contours and the transition between the chin and neck.
- Brow lift – allows the position of drooping eyebrows and the appearance of the upper face to be corrected.
The plastic surgeon decides on the appropriate facelift method and any combination of procedures on the basis of an individual examination, the client's anatomy and the desired extent of correction.
What does it address?
Sagging facial contours
Sagging cheeks
Undefined jawline
Deeper facial folds
The procedure
A facelift is usually performed under general anaesthesia. The plastic surgeon most often places the incisions in the temple area, around the ears and, if necessary, behind the ears, so that the resulting scars are as inconspicuous as possible.
Depending on the chosen method, the surgeon then releases, repositions or tightens the deeper facial tissues and removes excess skin. The extent of the operation varies depending on whether an SMAS facelift or a deep plane facelift is performed, or whether a neck lift or brow lift is carried out at the same time.
The specific surgical procedure is determined by the plastic surgeon with regard to your individual anatomy and the desired result.

Post-operative care
After a facelift, swelling, bruising, increased sensitivity or a feeling of tightness in the face and neck may occur. In the first few days, it is important to rest, sleep with your head slightly elevated and follow the plastic surgeon's instructions.
Post-operative care may include temporarily wearing a compression bandage and regular check-ups of the healing process. During the first few weeks, physical exertion, sport and activities that could strain the operated tissues must be limited.
The swelling gradually subsides and the final appearance of the face develops over the following weeks to months. Caring for the surgical scars and protecting them from sunlight is also important.

FAQ
At what age is a facelift suitable?
Clients usually consider the procedure from the age of 45, when skin elasticity is already significantly reduced. A facelift performed too early may not have a long-term effect. The doctor will assess your suitability.
What type of anaesthesia is used?
A facelift is performed using a combination of local anaesthesia and general intravenous anaesthesia.
Will the scar be visible?
The incision runs from the temple within the hairline, in front of the ear, around the earlobe and into the crease behind the ear. With smooth healing, the scar remains a fine, inconspicuous line.
How long is the recovery?
The operation is followed by a one-day hospital stay. The bandage is removed at a check-up on the fifth day, and the stitches are removed between the 10th and 14th day.
How much does a facelift cost?
Prices start at CZK 70,000. The final amount depends on the extent and technique, and the doctor will let you know during the consultation.
