Breast reshaping and reduction

Breast reshaping and reduction, also known as mammoplasty, are surgical procedures aimed at adjusting the shape, position and size of the breasts. They make it possible to lift sagging breasts or reduce their volume by removing excess tissue.

Who is the procedure suitable for?

Breast reshaping is suitable for women who are bothered by sagging breasts or a change in breast shape, for example after pregnancy, breastfeeding or significant weight loss. Breast reduction may be suitable for excessively large breasts that cause back and neck pain, pressure marks from bra straps or limitations during physical activity. Both procedures can also be used for marked breast asymmetry. The suitability of a particular approach depends on the client's anatomy and health.

What does it address?

  • Sagging breasts
  • Excessive breast volume
  • Breast asymmetry
  • Changes in breast shape

The procedure

Breast reshaping and reduction are usually performed under general anaesthesia. During reshaping, the plastic surgeon removes excess skin, reshapes the breast tissue and, if necessary, repositions the areola and nipple. In breast reduction, part of the glandular and fatty tissue is also removed to adjust breast volume.

The extent and placement of the incisions depend on the size of the breasts and the degree of sagging. Scars may run around the areola, vertically down to the inframammary fold or along the inframammary fold. Their final appearance depends, among other things, on how each individual heals.

Post-operative care

After breast reshaping or reduction, it is important to follow the recommended rest regime and your plastic surgeon's instructions. In the first few weeks, swelling, bruising, increased sensitivity or a feeling of tightness in the breast area may occur. Recovery usually involves wearing a post-operative bra, which gives the operated breasts the support they need.

During healing, it is necessary to limit physical exertion, heavy lifting and activities that strain the chest area. The return to normal activities is gradual, depending on the extent of the operation and individual healing. Care of the surgical wounds, follow-up check-ups and protecting scars from sunlight are also important.

Benefits of the procedure

  • Reshaping possible without breast implants.
  • Individually tailored surgical technique.
  • Breast reshaping and reduction can be combined.
  • Potential relief of physical discomfort associated with breast size.
